Loving God
Pray - (1/2 minute)
Read - (2 1/2 minutes) - "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits. . . . Bless the Lord, you His angels, you might ones who do His bidding who obey His word. Bless the Lord , all His heavenly hosts, you His servants who do His will. Bless the Lord, all His words everywhere in His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul.” (Psalm 103:1-2, 20-22)
Read: Mark 12:28-31
Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment. His response can be stated in four words. Love God. Love people. Fulfilling your purpose and finding meaning in life is wrapped up those two things. Both start with knowing and receiving God’s love. God made you to love you and He wants you to love Him back. Loving God back is worship. The Book of Psalms is a book of worship for God’s people. At least half of the 150 Psalms were written by King David, who was “a man after God’s own heart.” In Psalm 103, David speaks of blessing God.
When the word blessing is used of God blessing man, it focuses on Him bestowing favor and good things to man. When the word is used of man blessing God, the focus is on the root meaning of the word, which is to kneel. To bless God is to show your love for Him as you kneel in spirit before Him in reverence and express your love for Him through your worship, your walk and your witness. As you read through Psalm 103, there are four things that you can do that will spur deeper love for God in your own heart. Set your own heart to bless God by loving Him more.
