Know that You are Special to God
Pray - (1/2 minute)
Read - (2 1/2 minutes) - "Then Jesus told them this parable: ‘Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. . . Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. . . Jesus continued: ‘There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So, he divided his property between them.” (Luke 15:4a, 8a, 11-12)
Passage: Jeremiah 1:5, 31:3
The Pharisees and scribes criticized Jesus for associating with those people they considered to be outside of God’s love. Jesus knew what they were muttering to one another, so he told three parable which focused on helping people understand the value God places on people. The sheep was valuable to the shepherd. The silver coin was valuable to the woman. The son was valuable to the father. Each of those things was valuable, but each of them was lost. The sheep was lost ignorantly by wandering away from the flock. The coin was lost unconsciously as it was inanimate and didn’t know it was lost. The son was lost deliberately when he rejected the love of his father and demanded that he be given his inheritance.
Every person in the world is created by God and loved by God. Every person is valuable in the eyes of God. He loves everyone the same and He wants everyone to love Him back. However, a love relationship cannot be coerced. It must be chosen. The first step to having the relationship with God restored is to know that He loves you and to admit that you are a sinner, lost without Him.
