Good Spiritual Health Requires Sound Living

Read - (2 1/2 minutes) - "To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know god, but by their actions they deny Him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.” (Titus 1:15-16)
     Read: Galatians 5:1, 13-15

Sound doctrine does not lead to legalism which claims that being a good Christian depends upon following a list of rules decided by the legalist. It also does not lead to liberal license, which claims that a Christian can do anything he “feels” like doing. Sound doctrine does lead to freedom from being controlled by false teachers and finding freedom through being controlled by Jesus. As a believer you are pure, because you have Jesus living within you through His Holy Spirit. His perfect life is credited to you and your sin has been eternally forgiven because of you belief in His sacrifice for you on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.

Paul tells us in Galatians 5 that while we are free, we should not use our freedom to indulge our sinful nature as the license crowd would propose. He says we should use our freedom to serve others in love. Love is the key. If you love others as you love yourself, you won’t seek to do anything that would hurt them or you. You will desire to live a life that reflects Jesus to the world. Healthy believers and healthy churches want to be a blessing to others. Loving God and loving people is the basis for doing that.
