Passage: 1 Timothy 5:1-8
It is easy to read Proverbs 31 and get the impression that Solomon was setting a standard for women that few if any could match up to. One female writer expressed it like this. “This woman is skillful in a lot of different things. Scratch that. She’s skillful in everything. According to this chapter, she wakes up super early, has great biceps, she is a real estate investor, plants vineyards, (runs an agricultural business), she wears a lot of purple (actually is a great seamstress and runs a clothing manufacturing company), she cares for kids, cooks every meal, cares for the poor, has a large household staff, keeps the home warm, and she doesn’t eat carbs.”
God did not inspire Solomon to write all this with the intention of giving specific tasks that a woman should do. They are written to provide general principles that any woman who follows Christ can live by. The first principle is to be devoted to her family and friends. A woman worthy of praise cares about people, starting with her family and extending beyond into her community. Ask God to help you make a positive impact in home and community and live a life worthy of praise.
