   Passage: Ruth 3:1-11

Of all the days that are designated in America to recognize some part of the family, Mother’s Day stands out above the rest. It is celebrated by more people than any special day except Christmas and Independence Day and more money is spent on gifts for Mother’s Day than any other holiday except Christmas. King Solomon recognized the value of a mother when he wrote what we find in Proverbs 31. The word translated as “noble character”, “virtuous”, or “excellent” was used to designate a person of strength, power, ability and integrity. It is used in only two other places in the Old Testament. One is in Proverbs 12:4. The other is in Ruth 3:11, when Boaz told Ruth that everyone knew that she was a “woman of noble character.”
When Boaz made that observation, Ruth was a single woman without children. Her husband, the son of Naomi, had died and she had left her homeland in Moab to follow Naomi back to Israel. She didn’t have any property of her own or servant girls to care for, but she was already a Proverbs 31 woman, because she had put her trust in the one and only true God and her character reflected her faith in Him and love for others. Set your heart to be a person worthy of praise and let God use you in mighty ways.
