Tune in by Listening to God’s Word

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “But blessed are . . . your ears because they hear. For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed . . . to hear what you hear but did not hear it.” (Matthew 13:16-17)
      Passage: John 10:11-18

In the classic animated show, A Charlie Brown Christmas, there is a scene where Charlie and his friends are in class and the teacher is talking. All you hear from the teacher is the way the children hear the teacher, and it sounds like “wah, wah, wah, wah, wah”. They hear the teacher’s voice, but they are not paying attention to really comprehend what the teacher says.
To tune in to God, you have to listen to God’s Word. This kind of listening is hearing with a view to understand and respond in obedience. There are many voices calling out in the world. Those voices are saying things such as gender is not fixed, life doesn’t begin at conception, a monogamous, lifelong marriage is old fashioned and unrealistic, that all religions are the same and more. These voices are upside down from the Word of God which gives you God’s plan for your life and His purposes in this world. To develop an ear for God’s voice, you need to be in worship with God’s people regularly, be in a small group to study and discuss the Bible, have a consistent time alone with God each day, and learn to discern how he speaks through promptings to your spirit, the counsel of others and the circumstances you face. God will speak. Set your heart and ears to listen.
