Passage: 2 Timothy 4:1-5
When the Jewish people returned to Israel under the edict of Cyrus in 538 B.C., they began to rebuild the Temple in 536 B.C. Opposition arose and ultimately caused them to stop the work. In 520 B.C. God raised up two men, Haggai and Zechariah, who spoke God’s message to the people to get them back on track. Haggai came first. His basic message told the people that they needed to get back to work on rebuilding the Temple. Zachariah then came along. His basic message told the people to get their hearts fully right with God.
One of the keys to joining God in His work is for a church to have the faithful proclamation of God’s Word. The preaching of God’s Word is not designed by God to make us comfortable. It is designed to bring conviction and make us conformable to His character and committed to His purposes. Even when the feelings are not there, we are called to be obedient to God, just as the Israelite’s were told to restart the building work before they were challenged to return to God with their all their hearts. Thank God for churches that faithfully proclaim God’s Word. God uses preaching to impact the world.
