Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” (John 1:4-5)
  Passage: John 12:37-46

An urban legend story about Albert Einstein tells of a time when he was traveling on a train to a speaking engagement. When the conductor came by to punch his ticket, Einstein was frantically searching his pockets, but couldn’t find his ticket. The conductor said, “That’s okay Dr. Einstein. I know who you are. You don’t need to show me your ticket.” Later, the conductor came by again and found Einstein still searching for his ticket. The conductor said, “Dr. Einstein, you don’t need to find your ticket. I know who you are.” Einstein replied, “I know who I am too. What I don’t know is where I am going.”
The world is spiritually dead and living in the darkness of their sin. Many people are desperately looking for purpose and meaning in life and search for it in multiple ways. Others have grown weary of searching. The message of Christmas is that Jesus came into this world to bring life and light to lost people. He said to His disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) He gives purpose and meaning to life and directions for how to live the way God designed. He is incomparable in His presence. He is the Word of God and the Word is Christmas.
