   Passage: Esther 2:1-11

We know her best by the name Esther, but that was her Persian name. Her given Hebrew name was Hadassah. Her parents gave her that name, which means “myrtle tree”. It represented their picture of her as one who exhibited peace, beauty and righteousness. Esther’s parents died when she was a child and her older cousin, Mordecai adopted her and raised her as his own daughter. He poured himself into her in leading her to love God and trust Him. When she was chosen to be part of the harem from which the next queen would be chosen, Mordecai went by every day to check on her. He was committed to her.
If you are a parent, there is not a greater responsibility God has given you than to raise your children to know the Lord. That takes time. It takes bringing them to church instead of sending them. It takes letting them hear and see your love for Christ in the home as well as your service to Christ at church and in the world. Children catch more of what they see than what they hear. Be committed to your family and let your children see Jesus in you.
