Loving God’s Family

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’ Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.” (Acts 2:40-41)
   Passage: Psalm 50:1-6

It was the Day of Pentecost. Thousands of Jews across the then known world had traveled back to Jerusalem for the special feast known as Pentecost, which was 50 days after the Passover. On that day, 120 disciples were gathered in an upper room of a house in the city when the Holy Spirit descended upon them and came to permanently indwelling them. On that day, the church was born. When the Spirit came, He manifested Himself with the sound of a rushing wind, visible images of fire resting above each believer and the miracle of speaking in the native language and dialect of people who were in Jerusalem. Peter preached the gospel and 3000 people put their faith in Jesus and were baptized.

The church is God’s family and it is both universal and local. The universal church is made up of everyone in the world who has received Jesus and confessed Him as Lord. The local church is a group of God’s children in a community who gather together to fulfill His purpose “to glorify God and work with Him as He builds His Kingdom.” Like your biological family, the local church family is made up of imperfect people, but it is a family God loves and He wants you to love the family as well.
