God Owns it All

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your forefathers, as it is today.” (Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
Passage: Luke 12:13-21
Ownership is an earthly practice to help give order to society and security to people. When you hold the deed to a house, car or other have the receipt for a purchase, society recognizes that it is not okay for someone else to come and steal that from you. However, even though we recognize ownership in our lives, the things we “own” are actually things we manage temporarily. One day, everything in our possession will be transferred to someone else.
Money management for a disciple of Jesus needs to begin with a recognition of God’s ownership over all things. Jesus was once approached by a man who wanted his older brother, who received the double portion of the inheritance to divide it evenly. Jesus told a parable of a rich man farmer who decided to build bigger barns to hold a bumper crop. The man figured it would set him up for the future, but God said, “Tonight your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?” God wants the best for you. Acknowledge His ownership and determine to be a good manager of what he gives.
