Passage: Psalm 122:1-9; Hebrews 10:24-25
Many parents know the heartache of having an adult son or daughter be estranged from the family. It is sad to have a child who won’t come home, take a phone call or have any desire to have contact with the family. In the vast majority of situations, I know about, the parents raised their children in loving ways, but the estranged adult children found or felt something to excuse their rejection of the parents. The parents’ love for their children is not gone and they would be overjoyed to have the relationship restored.
In God’s family, no one who receives Jesus and confesses Him as Lord with a simple, sincere child-like faith, does so with an attitude that they will not follow Christ immediately afterward. However, over time, many do just that. While they may say they have not rejected Jesus, but no longer care to be part of a local church, they are in essence telling God they are not interested in being part of His family. One way that love for God’s family is shown is by the interest you show in being part of His family. God wants you to show up and join brothers and sisters in Christ in worship, discipleship and in fellowship. God will never remove His love from His child, but He delights when His children show up and are devoted to Him.
