Passage: 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Are you a sponge or a funnel? When the Holy Spirit came to dwell in you at the moment you confessed Jesus is Lord and received Him as your Savior, you were given one or more spiritual gifts to match with your natural talents and personality. God gave them to you because He has a plan and purpose for you to use them to glorify Him and serve Him in ministry to others.
Some believers are like sponges, of which there are two types. One type is like a sponge that has been left out on a counter or in a closet. It is dry and unusable. These believers have dropped out and show no interest in the things of God. They are spiritually dry and unusable. The other type is like a sponge that takes in water and keeps it inside. These believers at least show up and express interest in Bible Study or hearing a sermon, but they are not involved in any service under they are pressed into it like a sponge being squeezed. God wants His children be like funnels. A funnel believer in interested in God’s kingdom and involved in God’s work. He or she lets God pour into their lives and then direct the outpouring into a place of service as God leads. Loving God’s family involves service. No one can do everything, but every believer is gifted to do something. Serve the Lord with your gifts and show your love for His family through your service.
