Be Consecrated to Christ

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts. Each on should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. . . You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men. Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.” (1 Corinthians 7:19-24)
   Passage: Leviticus 20:7-8

The first letter Paul wrote to the church in Corinth addressed questions that came from the believers and issues that were dividing the church. Among the questions, some wondered if a person needed to change his or her current situation in life to be acceptable and usable by the Lord. For instance, did a person who was a Jew before receiving Christ, need to identify as a Jew? Or if a person was a Jew prior, did he need to physical undo the marks of his Jewish heritage? What about a person who was a slave? Could he serve Christ in that situation?
Paul’s answer was unequivocally, you don’t need to change anything on the outside to serve Christ and be close to Him. What God has declared you holy because Christ is holy and Christ now lives in you through the Holy Spirit. Holy means you are set apart for God’s special use. That is your position before God. Now, God wants you to consecrate yourself to Him, which meant to affirm and dedicate yourself conditionally to His sacred purposes. Whether single or married, consecrate yourself to God and seek to reflect Christ in all you do.
