Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “The righteous flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, . . .” (Psalm 92:12-14a)
   Passage: John 15:9-17

In the world, it is often thought that the best days of productivity are in the past for senior adults. That’s because the world’s view is based upon external things such as physical strength or active involvement in a business. However, in God’s Kingdom, the exact opposite is true. The psalmist recognized this truth as he looked at the palm and cedar tree. Both trees do not bear fruit right away in their development. They have to mature. One characteristic of the palm tree is that the older it grows, the sweeter its fruit becomes. In fact, it is the older trees that have been scarred the most that produce the sweetest fruit.
God designed you to bear fruit for Him. Old age is not the season when you will be less productive. It is the season when spiritual maturity should be at its greatest. It is the season when faith should be at its strongest. It is the season when more time can be give to prayer and encouraging God’s work. It is the season when more time is available for service and caring for others. Senior adults who live by faith don’t bear less fruit for Jesus. Heaven will reveal that it was the season of life for producing the most fruit for the Lord.
