Passage: 2 Corinthians 4:7-18
Palm and cedar trees are two of the hardiest trees on earth. The palm tree can withstand great abuse and still bear fresh fruit. Its life is deep inside rather than near the surface, so outward abuse doesn’t affect its life or fruit, except to make the fruit sweeter. The palm tree can also endure fierce storms. When a hurricane or strong straight-line winds come through, the palm tree will bend to the ground and then rebound after the wind has passed. The cedar tree is hardy in its longevity with some trees in Lebanon dating back 2000 years.
These trees are good illustrations of God’s purpose for His children to persevere through whatever comes at them in life. God promises us His grace and His power to enable us to stand and thrive through any adversity. The sad reality is that our flesh tries to pull us away from serving God and staying faithful to Him. God never promised that we would never experience difficulties. He promised to be with us and never forsake us. Thank God for His grace and persevere by faith in Jesus. He will see you through.
