Trust God Through Changes

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: ‘Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food.’ ” (1 Kings 17:7-9)
Passage: Psalm 121:1-8
Elijah was living during the drought under the protection and provision of the Lord and then the brook dried up. Certainly, God could have brought more water. After all, He had brought water from a rock for the Israelites when they wandered in the wilderness after being delivered from Egypt. The dried-up brook simply meant that God would protect and provide for Elijah in another place and He also had a purpose to use Elijah to be a blessing to someone.
The change that happened and the place God sent Elijah may not have made sense to his natural mind at first. Zarephath was a city in the nation where Jezebel was from and the people were not related to the Israelites in any way. Yet, there was a widow and her son who would become believers in the one true God and be able to testify to His power and goodness. Her home would be the place of protection and provision for Elijah, and she would see the provision of God in a miraculous way for herself and her son. When you experience changes that are unexpected and may not make sense, trust God’s care through the changes. He loves you and He will see you through.
