Trust God to Provide

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.” (1 Kings 17:5-6)
      Passage: Philippians 4:11-19

One of the ways God showed His care for Elijah during the drought in Israel was by protecting him from being found by King Ahab. Another way was by providing for him so he would not have to go looking for food and risk being seen. To do that, God ordered ravens to serve as a home delivery service. Ravens are large kin to crows. They are scavengers and meat eaters with large talons to pick up prey. The scripture doesn’t give us details of where the bread and meat came from, but I think it’s most probable that ravens flew into surrounding towns where the food was in open markets. They could swoop down, grab bread and meat and fly back to Elijah. Morning and evening, they brought Elijah food. It was enough to sustain Elijah, and it lasted for a long time.
God promises to provide for His children. Sometimes the provision will be in abundance beyond your basic needs, but always, it will be enough for what you need. Paul pointed this out to the believers in Philippi, who send him an offering to help provide for him while he was imprisoned in Rome. He thanked them and testified that He had learned the secret of contentment in trusting God regardless of how much he had. He also promised that God would supply all their needs. God cares for you. He will provide for you.
