Watch for Evidence From God

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “ ‘Go look toward the sea,’ he told his servant. And he went up and looked. ‘There is nothing there,’ he said. Seven times Elijah said, ‘Go back.’ The seventh time the servant reported, ‘A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.’ So Elijah said, ‘Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go do before the rain stops you.’ ” (1 Kings 18:43-44
Passage: John 12:20-23
When God makes a promise, He keeps it. He told Elijah that it was going to rain, but there was no indication in the sky that any rain was about to fall. Elijah didn’t get discouraged by that. He went to the top of Mt. Carmel to watch for evidence from God that the rain was coming. That place was where the victory over the prophets of Baal had come. It was the place where the altar of God had been restored. It was the place where revival among the people had occurred. Elijah went to that place and stayed close to God and waited for God to bring the blessing of rain.
The six times when his servant looked and saw nothing remind me that we can’t hurry God’s plan for our lives. The seventh time indicates that the promise came in God’s time and from God’s hand. The cloud wasn’t very big, but it carried an encouraging message. It was about to rain. While you are in a waiting period for something God has promised, keep being faithful and stay close to God. God will give you evidence, in His time, that he knows where you are and that He is about to bring a fresh blessing your way. Trust Him and let the blessings fall.
