God will Energize You for Service
Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain came on and Ahab rode off to Jezreel. The power of the Lord came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.” (1 Kings 18:45-46)
Passage: John 4:27-42
When the rain began to fall, Elijah got up and took off running. The distance from Mt. Carmel to Jezreel is about 15-17 miles and Elijah beat Ahab, who was riding in his chariot that was typically pulled by two horses. Even with the chariot and horses being slowed by the rain and quickly soggy ground, the fact that Elijah beat Ahab to Jezreel indicates he ran extremely fast. The answer to how he could do that is in the statement, “the power of the Lord came upon Elijah.”
There are times in life, when God is working in a special way, that His Spirit will energize you to keep going longer and doing more than you could normally do in your own energy. It may be a Sunday, where the service runs extra long due to a number of people making decisions for Christ. It may be a night at Youth or Kid’s Camp, when a sponsor stays up much longer hours in order to counsel a camper who wants to know how to become a Christian. God doesn’t want anyone to burn out and give up in their Christian Walk, but He will give anyone extra energy at special times to do special work for Him. Let the blessings fall.
