Humble Yourself before God

      Passage: 1 Peter 5:5-11

The rain did not come immediately after Elijah told King Ahab that he heard the sound of rain, but Elijah did two things that are examples for us. He went back to the place where the altar of God had been restored and waited for the answer to come. While you are waiting on God’s answer, keep doing what you know to do in following His purposes for your life. Worship in public with God’s people each week and in private with your daily Quiet Time. Study God’s Word and grow as a disciple. Serve others in the name of Jesus. Fellowship with God’s people for your encouragement and theirs. Reach out to people who need Christ through an invitation to join you at church or in an intentional witness conversation. These will all help you stay close to God.
Elijah also bent to the ground with his face between his knees. His posture was a sign of humility before God. Through his posture, Elijah was acknowledging that he couldn’t manufacture the rain, just as you can’t make the blessings fall in your life. You can do what you ought to do in being responsible, doing your best at whatever you do, but ultimately, all our blessings come from the hand of God. Humble yourself before God and let the blessings fall.
