Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity.” (Psalm 122:8-9)
Passage: Hebrews 10:19-25
A weary long haul truck driver stopped at a small-town roadside “greasy spoon” cafe for breakfast. The waitress asked when he wanted and he replied, “I’d like your breakfast special with two eggs and some kind words.” A few minutes later she plopped the plate in front of him and turned away. The man spoke up and said, “Hey, ma’am, you forgot the kind words.” She answered, “Don’t eat those eggs.” There are plenty of places in the world where people experience discouragement. God’s house, where His people gather for worship, should not be one of those places.
Encouragement is putting courage into another person through words and actions. It seeks the good of others, to build them up. Not tear them down. David expressed the DNA of the Spirit when he said he wanted people to know God’s peace and to experience prosperity. When you gather with your church family each week, there will be some who have faced discouragement, and they need a lift. Your smile, greeting, or sincere, “how are you?”, may be just the thing the Lord uses to encourage their lives. Go to worship with a spirit of encouragement and make an impact in someone’s life for Christ.
