Passage: Luke 4:14-21
When we normally think about following someone, we think about a leader being in front, and the followers are walking behind. When Jesus said “follow me”, He wasn’t talking about being behind Him. The emphasis of the word He used meant to accompany and walk side by side with Him. He was telling the disciples to “come alongside me and let’s walk and work together.”
You grow as a disciple when you devote yourself to God’s Word, (the incarnate Word, Jesus, and the inspired word, the Bible); when you surrender yourself to God’s will; and when you commit yourself to doing His work. In Acts 1:1, Luke writes, In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day He was taken up to heaven,” Jesus continues His work through His followers individually and His local churches corporately. Put your yes on the table and say to Him, “Here am I, Lord, use me!”
