          Passage: Isaiah 9:1-7

In 1942, Irving Berlin wrote a song for the movie, Holiday Inn. The song was “Happy Holidays”. In the movie, the song, sung by Bing Crosby, was sung at a New Year’s Eve party. It was a happy tune, at a time when the world was in the horrors of a war, to give a hopeful look that the year ahead might bring the happiness which people feel at the start of a new year. Some Christians get upset when people say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas, but keep this in mind. Holidays are “holy-days”. The days are holy because they point to the birth of Jesus, who is the Christ, God’s Anointed One and the Savior of the world.

Christmas literally is a Mass, or worship of Christ. Jesus is the Christ, the One John writes is the Word, or very expression and revelation of God, because He is God. The world might think that they can ignore Jesus as the reason for the season, but no matter what the world does, or the greetings they use, they cannot take Christ out of Christmas bexcause He is the Word of God and “The Word is Christmas”.
