Be Thankful - A Church to Call Home

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the holy and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace and peace to you form God our Father.” (Colossians 1:1-2)
          Passage: Psalm 15:1-5

I read a post of a young man who wrote: “Today, I decided to visit my childhood home. I asked the residents if I could come inside because I was feeling nostalgic, but they refused and slammed the door. . . . My parents are the worst.” This week of Thanksgiving, if your children come home or you are the child that goes home, the door will be open. I like to think of home as the place where you can go and they have to let you in, because you are their people.

A church is not a building. It is the people of God. The Greek word for church is ekklesia, which means “the called out ones.” The word, church, is used about 116 times in the New Testament in two contexts. One is to refer to the universal church which is comprised of every person who has believed in Jesus and received Him as Lord and Savior. The other reference is to local churches in local communities where believers gather together. God designed the local churches to be a place for His people. A place to call home.
