     Passage: Philippians 4:10-13

King Solomon was given a gift of wisdom to enable him to see and understand life and record what he learned. He took that gift from God and went on a journey to see if there was true meaning, fulfillment and purpose in life if one lived life without having God in His equation. He gained more money than anyone. He pursued pleasure, education, building projects, and more. His conclusion was that without God, “everything is meaningless.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2b)

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught that life is more than the material things we have and yet those are the things that our flesh nature wants to focus on. Advertising seeks to create dissatisfaction with what we have and cause us to want to acquire more things or newer things. The things of life are not the real problem though. It’s the dissatisfied attitude. Counting your blessings is one key to overcome that. Instead of looking at what you don’t have, look at what you do have. Are your true material needs of food and clothing met? You are blessed whether you have any more or not. Do you have food to eat today? You are blessed, whether it is a gourmet meal or not. Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? You are eternally blessed! Be thankful and appreciate what you have. God has been good to you.
