Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “. . . Everyone who loves the Father loves His child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out His commands. This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome,” (1 John 5:1b-3)
Passage: Psalm 122:1-9, 1 Thessalonians 4:9
DNA determines traits children have inherently inside of them, such as being mechanical, athletic, musical, artistic and more, as well as the traits of their personalities. As children grow, those traits may be shown as they gravitate toward experiences and activities that fit with those traits. The DNA of the Spirit operates in the life of a believer in the same way.
The Spirit in you longs to fulfill God’s purposes for you. John addresses things the Spirit desires. One is worship, which is expressing love for God. A second is fellowship, which is love for God’s people. A good statement I heard years ago is one to affirm. “Jesus in me, loves Jesus in you.” A third desire is discipleship, which is to have a love for learning and living out God’s Word. A fourth and fifth together are a desire to love God’s work and world, which is “keeping his commands to do ministry and evangelism in reaching out to the those without Christ. When you engage in those five purposes, you are giving practical expression to the traits and desires of God’s Spirit in you.
