     Passage: Psalm 146:1-6

Anyone who has grown up in West Texas, knows about dry climate and the gladness that comes with a good rain. Pam grew up in San Angelo and she remembers many times seeing people sit in lawn chairs in their front yards when a rain came after a long period of drought. Rains are blessings from the sky. They fill the lakes, help crops grow and turn the grass green.

The days of Elijah began with a pronouncement of judgment. Rain would cease and drought would come because of the sin of King Ahab. That drought would last for three and a half years. During that time, Elijah dealt with dryness and experienced the provision of God in the wilderness. He dealt with hard times and saw the hand of God in the miracles of caring for him and the widow of Zarephath as well as raising her son from the dead. He invited Obadiah to join God’s work in giving the message to Ahab that the time had come from confrontation, which happened on Mt. Carmel and resulted in a great victory. He then knew it was time from the rain to fall. Like the blessings Elijah knew would come when the rain would fall, you can know that God has blessings in store for you and your church. Let the blessings fall.
