Purpose to do God’s Will

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “ ‘What have I done wrong,’ asked Obadiah, ‘that you are handing your servant over to Ahab to be put to death?’ . . . Elijah said, ‘As the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will surely present myself to Ahab today.’ So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab went to meet Elijah.” (1 Kings 18:9-16)
Passage: Philippians 3:7-14
During the three and a half year drought, Ahab had people looking everywhere for Elijah, but God protected Elijah from being found. When Elijah told Obadiah to be a partner in God’s work by telling Ahab where Elijah would meet him, Obadiah questioned whether Elijah would really do it. Elijah answered with firm assurance that he would meet Ahab that day and Obadiah responded by doing what Elijah told him to do.
Joining God’s work requires a commitment to be faithful to do what God tells you to do. God has an overall purpose for us to glorify Him and work with Him as He builds His Kingdom. We do that through worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry and evangelism. When God’s people lose sight of that purpose, they will miss out on seeing God move among them in a mighty way. Follow the example of Jesus, who “set His face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51), where He would go to the cross to pay sin’s penalty on our behalf. Follow the example of Paul, who challenged all believers to “press toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14) Purpose in your heart to do God’s will and let Him use you to impact your world.
