Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Now the famine was severe in Samaria, and Ahab had summoned Obadiah, who was in charge of his palace . . . As Obadiah was walking along, Elijah met him. Obadiah recognized him, bowed soon to the ground, and said, ‘Is it really you, my lord Elijah?’ ‘Yes,’ he replied. ‘Go tell your master, ‘Elijah is hear.’ ” (1 Kings 18:1-2)
Passage: Philippians 1:1-5
Elijah could have gone to King Ahab directly, but God brought in another man who had served Him during the drought and used him to help Elijah. Obadiah held a prominent position in the Ahab’s court as the person in charge of the palace operations. He was a committed believer who feared the Lord and did not believe in the false gods of the Canaanites. He showed courage and compassion by hiding 100 prophets of God from being discovered and killed by Jezebel. He was also a contributor in using his own resources to feed them and take care of them.
God’s work is not a one man operation. God calls His children to work together to fulfill His plans. Never minimize your part in God’s work. Your partnership matters and you can be a partner in a number of ways. First, you parter with your presence. Your presence encourages them more than you know. Second, you partner with your prayers. Third, you partner with your participation in service using your gifts and abilities. Fourth, you partner with your pocketbook. Stewardship is a part of God’s plan for us to join Him in His work and your giving is important to help His work thrive.
