Be Consistent

  Passage: Matthew 9:35-38

Years ago, I read about an experiment that put a cork hanging on a string, next to a heavy steel bar hanging on a rope. The cork was set up to swing and hit the steel bar consistently. At first, it appeared the cork just bounced off and had no impact on the bar, but after a period of time, the bar began to move ever so slightly. Ultimately, the bar started swinging like a giant pendulum. The experiment showed the physical law of motion and demonstrated that no matter how large something may be, it can be moved if the force applied is done consistently.
The name Dorcas means “Gazelle”. Like her name, Dorcas was swift to minister to others with care and compassion. She lived a consistent life for Christ in a world that was resistant to the gospel and her actions of love kept hitting at the world’s opposition. As she helped others, people were more open to the gospel and then, when God brought her back to life, that resistance was destroyed and multitudes in the city came to know the Lord. It may seem at times that your service to others is not making a difference, but don’t quit. Consistent acts of love, coupled with the power of the Holy Spirit, will bear fruit for God’s Kingdom.
