Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, ‘Tabitha, get up.’ She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This become known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner name Simon.” (Acts 9:40-43)
      Passage: Psalm 112:1-10

The miracle of Dorcas being brought back to life was not normative during Jesus’ time in earth or during the early church period outlined in Acts. She, and a young man named Eutychus, (Acts 20:7-12) are the only two in Acts. She wasn’t raised because she was better than anyone else. God raised her to show His power and affirm the testimony of the gospel, which led to many coming to know Christ. I am sure that Dorcas was an even stronger witness for Christ after she was raised, but I am also sure that she looked forward to the day she could go back to heaven.
For the believer, life is preparation for heaven. We should seek to live beautiful lives that reflect the love of God and then we should share the gospel so people can know how they can know Him. Dorcas did that and made a great impact in her world. You can too!
