Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “But when the Jews opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, ‘Your blood be on your own head! I am clear of my responsibility. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” (Acts 18:6) Passage: Ephesians 6:10-18
There is nothing Satan wants to do more than to hurt God’s people and stop the spread of the gospel. He knows that he can bring temptations and trials that can work with the sin nature in man to cause those things to happen. His design is to discourage, divide and defeat believers through opposition in the world, and disagreements and dissensions among people within the church. Paul regularly experienced opposition from the world and he understood how problems could arise to fracture a local church. This is another reason he came to value Aquila and Priscilla so much. They not only supported him in friendship and stewardship, but they were also students of God’s Word and the stood firm against Satan’s ways.
Years later, after Aquila and Priscilla returned to their home in Rome, Paul wrote a letter to the believers in that city. They were the first people he mentioned in his closing comments. He said, “They risked their lives for me.” (Romans 16:3a) They stood with him when Jewish leaders opposed him in Corinth. He knew they stood up for unity in the churches they were part of as well. Stand firm in your life against the schemes of Satan and be a true Kingdom partner for Christ.
