          Passage: Philippians 1:12-18

Opposition can slow God’s work down, but it will not stop what He plans do. God will accomplish his work and He uses His people to do it. However, He doesn’t have to use any of us. He simply needs available people who will be faithful to follow Him and join Him in the work He is doing. Someone expressed the reality of God’s work this way when he wrote, “I am not concerned that if I don’t do what God wants me to do, His work will not get done. I am concerned that if I don’t do it, He will do it without me.”

While Satan used the enemies of God’s people to delay the work of rebuilding the Temple and repairing Jerusalem, he could not stop the work from getting done. Ezra points out that the work came to a standstill “until” the second year of Darius. God’s plans are not under a time constraint. His work is eternal and only He knows what the final piece of that work will be before Jesus returns in His Second Coming. Until that day, God has work for us to do. May we be faithful in doing that work!
