      Passage: Psalm 33:1-12

When I do premarital counseling for a young couple, I often have asked them if there is anything they could change about their fiancé. The answer at that time has always invariably been - no. Any couple that has been married a while laughs about that, because in healthy marriages, while each spouse will love the other in spite of differences, they each will also be willing to make adjustments to help their relationship grow. All of us can make choices to make changes in actions and attitudes, but there are some things we cannot change. We cannot change our DNA or chromosomal makeup, physically, and we cannot change our sin nature and separation from God. But Jesus can.

Jesus changes lives. The Apostle Paul says that when anyone comes into a relationship with Jesus, he becomes a new person. the word he chose for new was not one that meant new in time only, like a new car that is exactly the same as the previous year’s model. The word he chose means new in time and kind. When you believed and received Jesus, you became a new person. You were born into God’s family and you received a new nature through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Nothing you could do on your own could make that happen. What Jesus did on the cross did everything. Thank God for the chang Jesus has made in you.
