Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, ‘Hosanna!’ ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest!’ Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, He went out to Bethany with the Twelve.” (Mark 11:9-11)
      Passage: Psalm 27:1-4

On the Sunday prior to His crucifixion on Friday, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on the back of a young donkey that had never been ridden by anyone. If anyone else had tried to sit on the back of that donkey, the animal would have bucked him off, but the donkey didn’t do that for Jesus. This animal recognized that Jesus was His Creator, the Lord of the Universe. He submitted to Jesus and carried out the purpose God had for him.

The Triumphal Entry of Jesus that day was His presentation of Himself as the Promised Messiah. The people praised Him, but the religious leaders pouted about Him. When Jesus entered the city, He went to the temple and looked around. He saw what He had experienced over the past three years of His earthly ministry. It was a religious leadership that had lost their way and had rejected the purpose God had for them to glorify God and work with Him to build God’s Kingdom. The following day, Jesus would return and the first thing He would do was to confront those leaders and give a visual and verbal lesson for His followers on fulfilling their purpose and living with purpose. Set your heart to do that every day.
