In the Book of Life

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “From among the priests: The descendants of Hobaiah, Hakkoz and Barzillai (a man who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by that name). These searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.” (Ezra 2:61-62)
          Passage: Revelation 20:11-15

Among the people who returned to Israel from exile, there was a small group who could not find their family records to prove that were from a line of priests. Because of that they were excluded from doing anything related to the priestly ministry and were considered unclean. Their exclusion is a takeaway that every person born physically, is not automatically a child of God spiritually. Jesus let a Pharisee named Nicodemus know that being religious and seeking to following God’s laws was not the key to heaven. The key was belief in Jesus as Messiah. (John 3:16-18)
Revelation 20:11-15 describes two books in heaven. One contains the name and record of every person on earth. That record reveals that every person is a sinner and based on the record, no one can enter heaven. The second book is called The Book of Life. It contains the name of every person who believes and receives Jesus as Savior and Lord. Once your name is in that Book, it will never be erased. Thank God for your salvation through Christ and set your heart and life to join Him in His work!
