A Refreshing Life Gives Cold Water to Weary Souls

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.” (Philemon 1:7)
          Passage: Psalm 133:1-3

The Apostle Paul spent a lot of time over the years in prison for preaching the gospel. While he accepted that as part of the call and knew he would suffer persecutions, he still was human and had times that the loneliness and harshness of circumstances caused him to get down. He describes this in 2 Corinthians 7:5, For when we came into Macedonian, this body of ours had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn – conflicts on the outside, fears within.” He then added, “But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him.”
Paul experienced the same comfort and refreshment while he was imprisoned in Rome, and he heard about Philemon through Onesimus and others from Colossae and other places. Proverbs 25:25 says, “Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.” You may not be aware of the burden someone is facing, but when you give a kind word or do an act of service that blesses his/her life, you are being a refreshing person and giving cold water to a weary soul. Do it in Jesus’ name.
