   Passage: Romans 10:5-11

The writer of the book of Esther wanted to give the family background of Mordecai since he is the central figure who raised, guided, and encouraged Esther. He was in the tribe of Benjamin and the great grandson of a man named Kish, who was taken into exile under Nebuchadnezzar. Many commentators believe that he was a descendant of Saul, through Mephibosheth, who was Jonathan’s son, since Kish was the name of King Saul’s father and it could have been given him as a recognition of that relationship.
Whether or not that was the case, Mordecai demonstrated that he had a heart like Jonathan and accepted God’s plan that chose David to replace Saul as king. He believed that the promised Messiah would come through the line of David and the tribe of Judah instead of the tribe of Benjamin. He placed His faith in God and not in the things of this world. He was confident God would never abandon His people. The first step to building a legacy that is eternal is to put your faith in Jesus. When your faith is in Him, you will never be disappointed in the end.
