Have Compassion for People in Need

Pray – (1/2 minutes)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “One day as He was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for Him to heal the sick. Some men come carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take Him into the house to lay him before Jesus.” (Luke 5:18-19)
   Passage: Psalm 145:1-9

‍     A tour group was walking in a major city when they saw a little girl outside playing on the sidewalk. Her dirty face and matted hair indicated she had not been cleaned for a while. One lady expressed openly, “That’s disgusting that her mother would let her be like that.” The tour leader replied, “Well, you hate the dirt, but you don’t love the girl. Her mother loves the girl but doesn’t hate the dirt. Until hatred of the dirt and love for the girl is in the same person, she will stay like she is.”
It is easy to say one hates sin and loves the sinner, but true love is active. The action of love comes out of compassion to help meet the needs of another person. The man who was paralyzed was blessed to have friends with compassion. They loved him enough to bring him to Jesus, because they knew that only Jesus could heal him. God has compassion for people and He calls us to be the hands and feet that help reach out to people in order to bring them to Jesus.
