Passage: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
The early church dealt with many issues that threatened to derail the work of God if the false teachings were accepted. Two of those related to the body. One was the false teaching that dismissed the body as unimportant since it would go back to the dust while the soul would live on. This teaching promoted license to do anything that one might want to do with their body. The other was the legalistic false teaching that a believer had to follow the Jewish dietary laws.
Both of these were wrong. Paul points out that the body of a believer is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Taking care of your body through a healthy diet, exercise and moral purity is good stewardship that honors God and gives a positive witness to the world. However, Jesus pointed out in Mark 7:18-19 that your diet doesn’t make you holy. Christ in you and the response you have to live for Him does that. The example of Jesus as a growing young man points out God desires His children to take care of their bodies as best they can throughout every stage of their lives. Keep developing yourself physically and be a determined disciple of Jesus.
