Passage: 2 Timothy 3:14-15
The start of a new school year is generally an exciting time for children and youth after a summer break away from seeing many of their classmates. The promotion to a new grade level means they are advancing in their education and learning more each year. Many people think of education as stopping when formal schooling is over, but learning should never stop for a believer. Luke tells us that Jesus increased, or kept growing, and developing in wisdom. The word for wisdom in Greek, Sophia, has a root understanding of being skillful. It implies being skillful in applying learning to life. As a believer, you should be determined to be a lifelong learner about God’s Word, His ways, and His world.
Unless something has affected the capacity to learn, everyone can keep learning. While some retain what they read and hear faster than others, and each of us tend to retain and learn more of what we are drawn to know about, all of us can learn more. As a believer, learning starts with learning about God through a personal relationship with Jesus and then studying His Word. All truth is God’s truth and when you know Jesus, you can examine things in this world to help you in whatever you do. Don’t ever think you have learned all you can. Determine to increase in wisdom and keep developing mentally in your life.
