Your Gifts and Abilities are the Means for Service

   Passage: 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

         In Mark 14, Mark tells us that a couple of days before the Passover, Jesus was invited to the home of a man named Simon, who had been healed of Leprosy. With the homes having open courtyards, anyone could enter eating area and a woman, who Jesus had impacted, came in, broke open a jar of expensive perfume and poured it over Jesus’ head. Some criticized this as a waste, when it could have provided money for something they thought was more spiritual. Jesus defended her, recognizing she had actually anointed His body for burial and said, “She has done what she could.” (Mark 14:8)

Many people think they can’t serve if the service is not significant in their minds. That’s upside down thinking. When Jesus corrected His disciples regarding greatness, He also commended them for a simple act of service they did by saying yes to His call and being with Him over the past few years. They did what they could. God has gifted you with one or more spiritual gifts to match up with your natural talents, but He doesn’t depend on your abilities to serve. He first wants your availability and for you to do what you can, in whatever way you can, for as long as you can. Be a determined disciple and serve well.
