God’s Kingdom is the Motivation for Service

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “You are those who stood by me in my trials. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” (Luke 22:28-30)
   Passage: Matthew 25:14-23

         The Kingdom of God is the rule and reign of God. Jesus said to Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews, But now my kingdom is from another place.” While Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords and one day “every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord”, He did not come to set up a political and physical kingdom on earth. He came to pay the penalty for sin and redeem fallen man. On earth, His kingdom is His rule and reign in the lives of believers and in His Body, the Church. His kingdom is set up eternally in heaven and only those who have believed and received Him on earth will spend eternity there.

As Jesus corrected His disciples for their upside down understanding about greatness, He pointed out that God’s standard for greatness is service. Jesus is the perfect model for us, but His Kingdom is the motivation. Every believer is called to join Him in building God’s kingdom by helping the church spread the gospel and lead people to put their trust in Jesus and confess Him as Lord. Appreciation for salvation and anticipation that we will give account for how we fulfilled our purpose is a motivation for service. One day, you will stand before King Jesus in His eternal kingdom. Make it your aim to serve in a way that you will hear Him say “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
