      Passage: 1 Peter 2:1-3

Many parents have a wall in their home that is marked with lines made showing how tall their children were at different times throughout the years. It’s hard to see a child growing day by day, but when a picture is taken, or the growth line is marked months or a year apart, the growth will be apparent. Just as God designed for us to grow physically, He has designed for us to grow spiritually. That growth is the present tense of salvation.
Paul describes salvation as an ongoing process whereby God is transforming you from the inside out to bear the image of Christ. The power for this comes from the Holy Spirit as you cooperate with Him to fulfill His purposes of worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry and evangelism. Because the sin nature is still present, you will never be perfect, but God doesn’t expect that. Salvation in the present means that you are being saved from the power of sin. Your position before Him is already perfect in Christ. His work in you is so that the condition of your life might get closer each day to matching the position of your life as a child of God. PBPGINFWMY was on a button many people got years ago. It stood for, “Please be patient; God is not finished with my yet.” God continues to work in you every day.  Be thankful that you are saved!
