Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.’ But Elisha said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.’ ” (2 Kings 2:1-2)
     Passage: Acts 4:11-12

On his final journey, the first place Elijah went with Elisha was to Gilgal. Gilgal was the first place the Israelite people came to when they crossed over the Jordan River on the eastern side and entered the Promised Land on the western side. God parted the Jordan and Joshua told the Israelites to take twelve stones from the middle of the dry riverbed and set up a memorial in the Promised Land. He also told the Israelites to reinstitute the rite of circumcision as a sign of being God’s Covenant people.

God wants every person in the world to be in His eternal family, but the only way anyone can have sin forgiven and have the guarantee of heaven is to put faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus told us to be baptized as an act of identification with Him and a witness to the world. Like being at Gilgal, your profession of faith and identification of baptism was the start of your spiritual journey. You should always remember how you first came to Christ and give thanks for your salvation, but live well spiritually, you should not stop there. God has much more for you.
