Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, ‘As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.’ ” (1 Kings 17:1)
     Passage: Psalm 139:14-19

On July 4th, the Hill Country of Texas experienced a horrific, destructive, and deadly flood. Overall, the month of June was one of the wettest in history. Yet, the National Weather Service reported that 3.6 million Texas lived in areas experiencing drought conditions even as other parts of Texas were devastated by rains. Life is like the weather in Texas. Much of the time, things are well and pleasant. Then there are times of an unexpected storm or periods of difficult drought.

The drought in Elijah’s day came as a judgment of God on King Ahab and nation of Israel. Elijah and others who were faithful to God did nothing to deserve it, but they had to endure it. After Elijah pronounced the news of the impending drought, God gave Him instructions which provide principles for us in how to trust God during dry times or tragic, flood times in our lives. Elijah trusted God. You can too.
