Be Supportive of Leadership

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” (Acts 1:21-22)
Passage: Hebrews 13:15-21
One of the great traditions at Texas A&M University it The 12th Man. The tradition dates back to January 2, 1922, when A&M was playing in the Dixie Classic (now the Cotton Bowl). The game was so rough that, by halftime, A&M’s coach, D.X. Bible, wasn’t sure he would have enough players to finish the game. He look up in the stands and saw King Gill, a student who had been a reserve player, but left the team to focus on basketball. Coach Bible as Gill if he would come suit up and be available if needed. He did and, though he never got in to the game, the 12th man tradition was born. Gill later commented, “I wish I could say that I went in and ran for the winning touchdown, but I didn’t. I simply stood by in case my team needed me.”
God doesn’t need your ability as much as He wants your availability. Matthias was a believer available to God and in spite of not getting picked to be one of the original 12 Disciples, he followed Jesus and supported those who Jesus called. Good leaders for Christ must also be good followers. Be supportive of leadership and be available to serve in any way God leads.
