Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “. . . When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, ‘The gods have come down to us in human form!’ . . . But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: ‘Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. . . .” (Acts 14:8-17)
      Passage: Philippians 4:10-19

On Paul’s first missionary journey, he and Barnabas came into the city of Lystra, where God did a miraculous healing of a lame man to show the power of God and affirm the truth of the gospel. The people of Lystra, raised with the Greek religion, decided that Paul and Barnabas must be Greek gods come down to them. Paul and Barnabas emphatically rejected that adulation and pointed the people to the one and true God. They did not let the praise of man go to their head.
One key to faithful life is contentment in who you are and what you have. God loves you. He has made you for His purposes and He promises to provide for you. Be the best you can be for Christ and be thankful for his provision. Be a giver to participate in His Kingdom work and trust Him to help you manage the rest. Contentment will help you stay faithful to Him.
