Passage: Colossians 3:23-24
The visit of Paul to Lystra in Acts 16 was Paul’s made during Paul’s second missionary journey. Acts 14 describes how Paul and Barnabas had come to Lystra on the first missionary journey and tells how Paul preached, a miracle of healing a lame man occurred, and how opposing Jews came in and stirred up a crowd to stone Paul to kill him. God raised Paul up from either death or severe unconsciousness and Paul went back into Lystra and continued his mission. When he returned a few years later, he met a young man name Timothy who was probably 16-18 years old.
Luke specifically calls Timothy a disciple. He had believed in Jesus and as He confessed Jesus as Lord, he determined that he would be a disciplined follower. One absolutely essential key of discipleship is commitment to Jesus as Master of your life. Many believers fail in this area, because it is not always easy to stand for Christ when things are tough, and the world’s pleasures seem to call them away. Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters. . .” (Matt. 6:24) Get your directions for life from Jesus and His Word. Whatever you do, do it to your very best and seek to honor Him.
